Digital Removal Photoshop Project

VISA 110 | Students were asked to digitally remove parts of photos using Adobe Photoshop

“Singapore aims to be the world’s greenest. The push to go green extends to construction as well” – National Geographic, 2017

For this project I looked at Singapore's pledge to improve the green space in their country. I explored this concept from 3 different standpoints--personal (myself as a tourist), societal (Instagram/Singapore residents), and governmental (authoritative).

Personal level

This is a picture of myself in front of the Peranakan Colorful Houses of Katong, that was taken last year when I visited Singapore. I decided to put blue flowers (edited to match the color of the building) under certain parts of the building to emphasize this idea of urban green spaces in the literal sense – flowers on a building.

Societal level

This is a picture I took from Instagram of public housing in Singapore. I decided to put examples of the projects Singapore has been working on to address this plan under certain parts of the building once again. This picture is to represent the project as a whole at a societal scale as the photo itself is from a photographer of Singapore’s society and the pictures of example projects are the real-life buildings.

Governmental level

This is a picture I took from the official Singapore tourism website of the Chijmes Church. I decided to put text from a document (that outlines how Singapore is trying to achieve their goal of becoming more green) under certain parts of the building. This picture is to represent the concept at a macro (governmental) scale as it includes an official photo and an official document.
